Equality Statement
At Staunton on Wye Primary School, we are committed to promoting equality, celebrating diversity, and ensuring that every member of our school community is treated with respect and dignity. This includes our pupils, staff, parents, governors, and visitors.
We aim to provide an inclusive, caring environment where everyone is valued and supported. This commitment reflects our school vision of an enriching curriculum, a caring environment, and outstanding opportunities for all children.
Our Commitment to Equality
We meet our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty by working to:
- Eliminate discrimination, harassment, and victimisation
- Advance equality of opportunity for people who share protected characteristics and those who do not
- Foster good relationships, understanding, and respect across our school community
We recognise and respect the protected characteristics defined in law, including disability, race, religion or belief, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, and others as outlined in legislation.
How We Promote Equality
At Staunton on Wye Primary School, we actively promote equality by:
- Creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for all pupils
- Supporting individual needs, including those related to disability, SEND, medical needs, faith, or family circumstances
- Ensuring all pupils have equal access to learning experiences, clubs, trips, and leadership opportunities
- Teaching respect, tolerance, and understanding through our curriculum, assemblies, and wider school life
- Encouraging positive relationships and celebrating diversity within our school and the wider community
Leadership and Responsibility
Equality is everyone’s responsibility:
- Our Governing Board oversees equality objectives and ensures they are reviewed regularly
- The Headteacher and Senior Leaders promote awareness, provide training, and ensure equality issues are addressed
- All staff are expected to uphold equality and inclusion in their professional conduct and practice
Equality in Practice
We carefully consider equality when making decisions, including policy development, staffing, school trips, and curriculum planning. We make reasonable adjustments where needed to ensure fair access and participation for all.
Any concerns or complaints relating to discrimination or harassment are taken seriously and managed through clear, fair procedures.
Monitoring and Review
Our equality approach is reviewed annually to ensure it remains effective and responsive to the needs of our pupils and staff. We welcome feedback from parents, carers, and the wider community to help us continue improving.
