Computing

Intent

Our Computing curriculum ensures all pupils become confident, responsible and creative digital citizens, equipped with strong foundations in:

  • Computer Science – coding, algorithms and computational thinking
  • Information Technology – practical skills for creating, editing and organising digital content
  • Digital Literacy – safe, responsible and critical use of technology

We aim to develop pupils who can think logically, solve problems, communicate ideas effectively and navigate the online world with confidence. A strong emphasis is placed on online safety, digital wellbeing and media literacy, including recognising and responding to misinformation, disinformation and conspiracy theories.

Our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and designed to prepare all pupils for the demands of modern life and future learning.

Implementation

We use the Teach Computing scheme, which is:

  • Grounded in the latest educational and cognitive science research
  • Structured as a spiral curriculum, ensuring key knowledge, vocabulary and skills are revisited, deepened and secured across all key stages
  • Designed to provide coherent sequencing and continuity from EYFS to Year 6
  • Fully resourced with embedded assessment opportunities, enabling teachers to check understanding, adapt teaching and ensure inclusion across cohorts

E‑Safety is taught explicitly through ProjectEVOLVE, aligned with the UKCIS “Education for a Connected World” framework, ensuring comprehensive and age‑appropriate coverage of digital relationships, online behaviour, media literacy and managing online information.

Effective implementation is supported by:

  • Regular staff CPD to strengthen subject knowledge
  • Ongoing monitoring by the Subject Leader and SLT
  • Purposeful cross‑curricular links
  • Access to a wide range of devices, software and applications
  • Adaptations to meet the needs of SEND and all learners
  • Systematic teaching of vocabulary and digital resilience skills

Pupil feedback is used routinely to refine provision and maintain engagement.

Impact

By the end of Year 6, pupils will:

  • Be confident, enthusiastic and capable in Computing
  • Apply computational thinking to analyse and solve problems
  • Produce, evaluate and refine a range of digital outcomes
  • Understand how to stay safe online and behave responsibly
  • Critically question and challenge misinformation, disinformation and conspiracy theories
  • Recognise the benefits and risks of digital technology
  • Transition to secondary school with secure foundations and positive attitudes

Impact is evaluated through:

  • Assessment built into every Teach Computing unit
  • Pupil progress data and work scrutiny
  • Lesson observations and learning walks
  • Skills audits and teacher feedback
  • Pupil voice discussions
  • Review of long‑term progression maps

Our Computing and E‑Safety curriculum ensures all pupils develop the knowledge, skills and digital resilience required to thrive in an increasingly technological world.
